If you received a letter about your Marketplace coverage for 2027, you may have questions about your savings. Here is what changed in Obamacare subsidies and what to do during Open Enrollment. At Univista Insurance, we want to explain what this means for your wallet, without technical jargon.

What Ended on December 31, 2025

The additional savings available because of the COVID pandemic ended on December 31, 2025. If a letter told you that you may not qualify for the premium tax credit next year, this is one of the possible reasons; another is that updated income information from the IRS may show that you don’t qualify.

Who Can Get the Premium Tax Credit in 2027

With income between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level, you qualify for the premium tax credit in all states. For 2027 coverage, that is $15,960.00 to $63,840.00 a year for one person and $33,000.00 to $132,000.00 for a family of 4.

Starting January 1, 2027, only U.S. citizens, green card holders, Cuban or Haitian entrants and COFA migrants can get the tax credit, and DACA recipients aren’t eligible for Marketplace coverage. Other lawfully present immigrants can still buy a Marketplace plan, but without those savings.

What you need to know for 2027:

  • Your savings are based on your expected household income for 2027, not last year’s income.
  • With very low or no income, you probably won’t qualify for Marketplace savings, but you may qualify for programs like Medicaid or CHIP.
  • If your income or household changes during the year, report it to the Marketplace to avoid owing taxes for using more of the premium tax credit than you qualified for.

Impact on Your Wallet: How much will you pay?

Many clients ask us: “How much will I pay in 2027?” The short answer is: it depends on your expected household income and the plan you choose. You get exact plan prices and savings when you fill out a Marketplace application.

Univista Guide: What to do for 2027

As your insurance advisors, this is our recommendation for Open Enrollment:

1. Update your application by December 15

Starting November 1, you can apply for 2027 coverage or update your application with any changes you expect for the year ahead. By December 15, 2026:

  • Update your expected income and household information, so you get the right amount of savings.
  • Enroll in a plan so your coverage starts January 1.
  • If you don’t act by December 15, you may be automatically re-enrolled for January 1 coverage, but you should update your information to get the right amount of savings. In some cases, you won’t be automatically re-enrolled.

2. Compare your plan options

During Open Enrollment, you can renew, change or update your plan. Call us and a licensed Univista Insurance agent will compare your options with you at no extra cost.

3. Stay informed with reliable sources

There are many rumors on social media. Do not make decisions based on a Facebook headline. Call us to verify any news.
