Florida is seeking additional funding to fortify homes

Florida is seeking additional funding to fortify homes. The Florida Senate has passed a bill allocating $100 million for the My Safe Florida Home (MSFH) program, which, if approved in the House, would assist Sunshine State homeowners in enhancing their home structures to reduce high homeowners insurance costs.
The MSFH program, established in the previous legislature, aims to bolster Florida homes against hurricanes and save money for homeowners. Although it is not currently accepting new applications, interested homeowners should stay tuned for the approval of new funds expected to occur after July 1.
Program beneficiaries may receive a grant reimbursement of $2 for every dollar invested in a mitigation project included in MSFH, up to a maximum of $10,000. To apply for assistance, the homeowner must reside in the home in question, have a homestead exemption, the property’s insured value cannot exceed $700,000, accept two free property inspections, the program must approve the contractor performing the work, and finally, the homeowner must pay the contractor in full before the program reimburses them.
From a practical standpoint, if a homeowner invests $15,000 in repairing their roof, the government will refund $10,000. Strengthening structures will enable them to lower their property insurance premiums.
The program covers reinforcing roof and wall connections, reinforcing the roof, updating the roof covering, and updating home doors and windows.
