Medicare enrollment period opens: you can improve your coverage. Every year in the fall, between October 15 and December 7, the Medicare open enrollment period takes place. This is the time when Medicare members can make any changes to their coverage. That is, they can switch from Original Medicare to Medicare Advantage and vice versa, improve their prescription drug plan, or change the Medicare Advantage plan for another.
At the beginning of October, insurers send the benefits of their coverage for the next year and the new conditions of the contract. It is time to compare with other plans that could be cheaper. Any changes made this fall will affect coverage for the year beginning January 1, 2023.
If your current plan suits you, you don’t have to do anything. But if you’re thinking of upgrading from your Medicare Advantage plan to another, you should pay attention to the deductible, the in-network out-of-pocket maximum, the out-of-pocket maximum, copays for medical visits, the different services available in the plan, as well as the list of covered drugs.
