Miami-Dade County has just rolled out an exciting announcement – a 35% discount on flood insurance. Who stands to benefit from this? Miami-Dade County has just announced that starting April 1, 2024, homeowners and businesses in the county’s unincorporated areas can apply for a 35% discount on their National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) premium.
This discount becomes possible as Miami-Dade has improved its rating in the Community Rating System, a program created by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to encourage communities to take measures and invest in programs and infrastructure to mitigate or prevent flood risks.
The timing could have been better for Citizens policyholders with wind coverage, thanks to the HB-799 law 2023. As of January 1, 2024, Citizens’ policies covering properties valued at $600,000 or more must include flood insurance.
So, if your property or business is in an unincorporated area of Miami-Dade, you can apply for a 35% discount on your flood insurance.
