I had the WORST experience with this agency. In the first year of the homeowner insurance policy, everything was fine. Of course, my policy was paid in full. However, when it was time for a renewal, I get a notice in May from Citizens that they were not going to renew my policy for failure to submit documents (proof of primary residence). I found it strange because a month before, I had emailed him such documents. I called the agent, Mr. Oris Tamayo, and he said that he had fulfilled everything and that it was too soon to look into it. He said that as time gets closer, he would call me. My policy expires in October. I reached back a few months afterwards to see what the status was, and he said the same thing. I emailed him a month before the policy expired (in September) because I was concerned that I had not heard from him and what needs to be done for the submission of the required documents. He said he would call me back. Well, it is October and I still have not heard from that agent. My policy expires in 14 days.
I called Citizens directly to find out what the issue was and it seems that he had not submitted the proper documents. The only reason Citizens did not drop my coverage back in May is because I had paid in full for the year. It was the only thing that saved me.
If you have never purchased an insurance policy before, it is a BAD thing when the insurance company drops your coverage because it goes on your record with insurance companies and it would mean buying a new policy, which would increase your premium, which is what I am also being quoted now due to their negligence. It is not fair that I have done my due diligence from five months ago and no one has taken the time to call me back to resolve this. I could lose my home and it could affect my credit.
Please be mindful when you are buying home insurance and do your research. If you are not getting call backs, you need to work on finding a new agent immediately. He was not discourteous at all, but he was negligent.
